Neurotoxins (Botox and Dysport)

Many wrinkles or expression lines are creases that appear in the skin from making the same expressions repeatedly. These wrinkles are caused by contraction of specific muscles under the skin in that area. Neurotoxins, like Botox and Dysport, block the nerve impulses from reaching the muscles and, as a result, the muscle becomes weaker. The skin containing the wrinkles overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles gradually soften and often disappear.

Fillers

Soft tissue fillers work to restore fullness to the face that is often lost as we age. Depending on the area injected, fillers can be used to soften wrinkles, smooth skin folds, or replace areas of volume loss.  The most common types of soft tissue fillers include hyaluronic acid derivatives (e.g. Restylane, Juvederm). Kybella

Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is a medication that is used to help dissolve fat in the submental region below the chin, sometimes referred to as the “double chin.” This medication is typically injected as a part of a series of 3-4 injections, depending on the amount of fat in the area.

Side effects of this injection include bruising, swelling, and rarely, injury to a nerve located in the injected region.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels utilize an acid in a controlled manner to rejuvenate the skin. The chemical peel acts as an exfoliant to remove a specific amount of skin cells from the top layers of the skin, including imperfections in the process. Peels speed up the process of cellular turnover in the skin by shedding the top layer of dead surface cells. After a peel, new, healthier-appearing cells regrow, restoring the skin’s surface and appearance. Learn more about chemical peels here.

Microneedling

Interested in improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face and neck? Non-surgical, minimally-invasive microneedling treatments at Dermatology of Philadelphia (administered by board-certified dermatologists) may be the solution.

Microneedling utilizes state-of-the-art technology to make precise micro-injuries in the skin to regenerate collagen. This collagen stimulation improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck. It can also help improve acne scarring.

Hair Restoration

We use an injection of concentrated platelets with specialized growth factors derived from your own blood into areas of thinning hair or hair loss. Platelets become activated when injected into the scalp and release multiple growth factors, which stimulate the activity of hair follicles and promote hair growth. This can can increase blood flow to the hair follicle, and increase thickness of hair.

Laser for Rejuvenation

Intense pulse light (IPL) is a technology that effectively treats multiple skin conditions by emitting varying wavelengths of light onto and into the skin. This non-invasive treatment is for skin pigmentation and vascular skin conditions, which usually appear as redness in the skin. It is also able to brighten the skin tone, texture, and brightness.

Laser for Hair Removal

Hair removal is one of the most common uses for IPL. Intense pulse light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft and hair bulb.  This damages the cells that recreate hair without damaging the surrounding tissue.  The damaged hair follicles produce lighter, thinner, or no hairs all.
